[applause] thank you. this, being a sunday morning, i want to begin by saying that this is the data god has made, that us rejoice and be glad. let us rejoice and be glad that as we gather here in the white house, barack obama is being officially sworn in as the president of the united states. earlier this day, joe biden was sworn in as vice president of the united states. tomorrow, it will be a ceremonial, but today it is official. what a great day. what a great day that we are celebrating emily's list success in strength in numbers. women leading the way. isn't that exciting? 15 more women senators in the united states senate. that is remarkable. in this cycle, we have 80 more democratic women in the house bringing our number to 61 women in the house. minority leader, nancy pelosi. close at his heels is chuck schumer, something you will all throughout the day. there's a lot of talk in washington about how republicans don't want to be here or how this is not a republican event, this is a democratic event. it is not like that. this formally -- there's former president bill clinton and secretary of state, hillary clinton, there. this is about governance and the presidency. this is not about who won the election, except in the technical sense. this is pomp and circumstance that should be everybody involved in governance as signified in a visible way by the presence of supreme court justices. supreme court justices do not avail themselves of political environments unless they are behaving in a way unbecoming or for justice. to have them there today is a reminder of the power of the united states. >> there are two people that have been fantastic for the country and barack obama. secretary of state, hillary clinton, and of course, bill clinton, former president. he was hired to work re-election for barack obama. >> former president carter

, thank you for the chance to comment on this gun violence issue. i am a constituent of nancy pelosi. we're not having a here in san francisco. that is why i am here. shortly after hearing of the massacre in connecticut, i posted a petition on the web at called "ban assault weapons, all of them." i'm here to present you with nearly 5000 signatures the people nationwide who have signed the petition. it is not done by an organization or a group. it is just me, a concerned citizen and those who share my view, a ban on assault weapons, all of them. many who signed made comments. i urge you to leave through the comments. i will read a couple appeared as a former marine, i can guarantee very few if any civilians need anything like the assault weapons. mental illness might be a good scapegoat to fix the blame, it is nothing more than a red herring. the real problem is the profits of these weapons generate. >> thank you. i will read the comments. >> i found this information. the second amendment was included in the bill of rights to ensure the individual maintained the right to defend himself an
